The Deepening Crisis of Suicide in Florida

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 10-24 in the U.S. What do the data tell us about suicide rates among communities of color? What do families and friends of those struggling with mental health issues need to know to provide or support effective intervention? What role do cultural stigmas about mental illness play in keeping people from seeking help? What are the gaps in the mental health care system that need to be filled? This will be the first of two briefings timed to book-end Mental Health Awareness Month (May), hosted by NAMI Miami-Dade County, serving Miami and the Florida Keys.
