Ethnic Media Celebration
Thank you for joining us on August 27-28th for a joyous celebration of multilingual journalism at its best in the Golden State. Representing ethnic multi-media outlets from across California, reporting in a dozen languages, the 2024 Ethnic Media Awards ceremony highlights outstanding journalism you will rarely see reported in the mainstream. With over 300 entries, 40 finalists and 22 winners, this year’s awards ceremony at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento brings together a "who's who" of the ethnic media sector celebrating each other's work and concludes a two-day Conference and Expo hosted by California Black Media and Ethnic Media Services. Several veteran judges pronounced this year's entries "not only the most but the best entries we've ever seen." Discover why ethnic media are an indispensable if often rarely recognized part of California journalism. Check out the collage below from this year's event.
What Is "Ethnic Media" — Who Qualifies?
Ethnic news outlets are those print, online, broadcast platforms that target a specific audience defined by race, ethnic origin, religious affiliation, gender identity and that publish regularly. Pan-ethnic media outlets target multiple ethnic audiences (such as pan-AAPI, pan African diaspora, pan-immigrant, pan people-of-color, pan LGBTQ+).
