    Did someone tell you to move or transfer money to “protect” it?  Did they claim to be from a government agency like the FTC or the Social Security Administration or a well-known company like your bank, Amazon, or Microsoft? That’s a scam. 

    The FTC reports a steep rise in reported losses to scams that impersonate businesses and government agencies. Many now start with a call or message about a routine problem, like suspicious activity on an account. But in a new twist, the story quickly takes a more serious turn.
