Voting Rights Under Attack in the South

Supreme Court Reviews Louisiana Redistricting Case

supreme court

On March 24 the Supreme Court will hear a Louisiana redistricting case which is pivotal to the fight for fair representation of Black and minority voters in that state and across the South. The case comes directly on the heels of the historic Allen v. Milligan case in Alabama, where the Supreme Court upheld Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, affirming the need for fair representation of Black voters.

The Louisiana case now presents the next major test in this ongoing legal battle. With state leaders actively working to weaken voting protections, the outcome of this case could have national ramifications for voting rights and representation across the country.
