The Latino community is susceptible to believing messages and information that come via social media, the internet or that are spread person-to-person. For this reason, local media, civil society and governments must work together to combat disinformation, especially when it comes to matters such as public health.

New technology has given people a readily available source of information. But this technology also serves to spread misleading and harmful messages that can impact decisions people take, including on whether or not to get vaccinated against Covid 19.

California maintains a website that seeks to give residents access to verified, reliable information when it comes to the pandemic. The site provides the latest updates on advances in vaccines and other public health issues, and is a critical resource — especially for Spanish speaking residents of Kern County — in combating the scourge or mis- and dis-information that continues to spread.
