Was Live | Tues, Sep 27, 2022 | 11 am PT

Guest Speakers:

  • Zenobia Lai, Executive Director, Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative

Event Description

On Sept. 9, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued the Final Rule on Public Charge Ground of Inadmissibility which will become effective on Dec. 23, 2022. Immigrant families who have been fearful of enrolling in healthcare and public benefits safety net programs because of the 2019 Public Charge rule need to know how this final rule affects their ability to access public benefits.

Attorney Zenobia Lai, ED with the Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative, will explain how the Final Rule provides much needed clarity to how immigration officials and consular officers will make public charge determinations, and the impact this will have on individuals seeking admission as an immigrant or applying for adjustment of status to become a lawful permanent resident.
